Who is Jack Bauer?

Character of the Week: Jack Bauer

Every week we present the "Character of the Week" - a character from a television series which we find interesting, funny, strange or just cool.

This week, we focus on Agent Jack Bauer from FOX's action drama "24", portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland.

Jack Bauer was born in Santa Monica, California, on February 18, 1966, son to Philip Bauer. The name of his mother is unknown. Jack had one brother, Graem Bauer. Philip and Graem was indirectly connected to a nuclear attack in season 6. After an interrogation by Jack, his father kills Graem to prevent him from releasing infomation.

Jack has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Litterature and Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Science degree in Criminology and Law from the University of California, Berkley.

He entered the U.S. Army and eventually joined the elite Delta Force; among the decorations accumulated during his service are the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and the Legion of Merit. Jack left the army with the rank of Captain and later worked for both the LAPD's S.W.A.T. unit and for the CIA as a case officer in the clandestine service. He was recruited into the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) by Cristopher Henderson - who later assisted terrorist in a nerve gas attack.

Jack speaks and understand German, Russian and Spanish and is capable of flying planes (season 2) and helicopters (season 3).

He was married to Teri and has a daughter named Kim. His wife and daughter was kidnapped by Victor Drazen in Season 1. Jack kills Drazen, but his wife is killed by Nina Meyers. In the same season, Jack prevents the assasination of Senator David Palmer.

Jack also prevent a nuclear bomb from exploding in Los Angeles city (season 2), ends up with a heroine addiction (season 3), fakes his own death (season 4), stops a nerve gas attack (season 5), is captured by the Chinese (season 5), spends time in Africa (24: Redemption), has a relationship with FBI Agent Renee Walker (season 7) and is currently trying to stop weapon-grade uranium from ending up in the wrongs hands (season 8).
